Cheesy moment: Top Gun made a star of Cruise
Bill Pullman's call to arms as US president in the film Independence Day has been named the cheesiest movie moment of all time by Empire magazine.
Pullman's "cornball speech" in the 1996 blockbuster led a cringe-making list.
Other top five entries included Top Gun ("You can be my wingman any time") and Four Weddings and A Funeral (Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed.")
Robin Williams was singled out by the magazine who likened his work to "being dipped in a churning vat of Camembert".
Among a long line of cheesy roles, the magazine singles out a group of terminally-ill children turning up in court to save his comedy doctor character's career in Patch Adams.
But no other contender beat Pullman's "Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!", from the widely-panned fantasy movie.
Kate Beckinsale's reading of a love letter in front of an improbably beautiful sunset in Pearl Harbor came fifth on the list.
Kevin Costner earns a place for a scene in his flop film The Postman in which a blind woman tells him: "You're a godsend, a saviour."
"No, I'm just a postman", Costner solemnly replies.
Other cheesy moments to make the top 10 included Richard Gere sweeping Debra Winger off her feet at the end of An Officer And A Gentleman, and a romantic scene between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones.
Cancer-stricken Susan Sarandon leading her kids in a family sing-a-long during the weepie Stepmom also made the list.
Which moments in which films made you cringe? Use the form below and tell BBC News Online.
Pretty much any part of "It could happen to you" where Bridget Fonda and Nicolas Cage as a waitress and a cop who win the lottery in New York and give it all away. The entire film reeks of intolerably concentrated sappiness (except for a little bit of light releif from Rosy Perez). I think it is the worst film ever made.

ID4 was a fun movie, but that Agincourt speech was definately a hybrid of very best swiss and dutch export stuff. I remember people groaning in the cinema when I first saw it. Another cheesy moment from that film was when the british pilots in the middle east say: "It's the Americans! Thank God for that - what are they planning to do?" ... using "old fashioned" morse code of course!

The most cheesy movie moment by far was that movie where the president lands on an aircraft carrier and declares mission accomplished...oh, wait, that was reality.

The Jeepers Creepers films were advertised as the 'scariest movies of all time'. Maybe this slogan should have read 'the worst'. The acting was comical and the costume/makeup of the Creeper was histerical! I set out for the second film not preparing for horror but for humou! - In this respect it was quite a good comedy.

Morpheus's speech to population of Zion from Matrix Reloaded made me want to hide behind my fingers. I never normally use the fast forward button, but it come into it's own during this "rousing" speech.

Basically, any scene in any movie where Tom Cruise tries to "act" all serious ... but the most memorable verbal diarrhea-inducing line was Jerry Mcguire's "You had me at 'hello'".
Gerard,Singapore
Tom Cruise, (again), uses the line "Living the dream baby" in the film Vanilla Sky. Enough said.

I realize that most of the pure rubbish out there is American but let's not forget Luc Besson's The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999). This could be the most over-directed drivel ever to hit the screen. So much for the superiority of French film.

Dirty Dancing "Nobody puts baby in the corner." I think this is very cheesy

The Matrix when Trinity tells Neo she loves him so he cannot die. The Matrix Reloaded when Neo saves Trinity by removing a bullet from her liver. CRINGE CRINGE CRINGE!!!

Independence Day by a mile: its riddled with All-American cheese.

Either DiCaprio and Winslet perched on the prow of the Titanic, or DiCaprio clinging to the icefloe at the end of the movie. Although it was a movie about a ship, they should have handed out airline barf bags.
Elaine Cole,United States
Anything with Meg Ryan in it.

The beginning through final moments of "All the Pretty Horses" made me cringe.

Armageddon What a pile of cheddary pap that was! As one critic said at the time, "'Armageddon' is an assault on the eyes, the ears, the brain, common sense and the human desire to be entertained. No matter what they're charging to get in, it's worth more to get out. The plot covers many of the same bases as the recent 'Deep Impact,' which, compared with 'Armageddon,' belongs on the American Film Institute list."

Rumour has it that the end of the Return of the King features Gandalf giving a massive thumbs up with a wide cheesy grin - surely an inappropriate way to end the trilogy!
Jack James,UK
The Hulk's line "you won't like me when I'm angry" was by far the lamest I've heard in a movie for a long time.
MK,USA
FORREST GUMP - the entire movie made me cringe. And not in a good way!
