John Cusack comes from a family of talent. His father, Richard Cusack, is an actor as well as a documentary film-maker. Two of his sisters, Joan and Susan, are both actresses. (You may remember that Joan starred with John in Say Anything... andGrosse Point Blank) His other sister, Ann, is also in "the biz" as a singer and his mother, I suppose, does her own form of entertainment.....the entertainment of children, yup, you guessed it, she's a teacher!
For someone that has around thirty movies under his belt since 1983, it comes as a suprise that he isn't as well known as some of the newest actors to come onto the big screen. The truth is, John Cusack values his privacy and prefers not to make a big deal of himself. He has been quoted as saying "Celebrity is death...celebrity...that's the worst thing that can happen to an actor." And maybe that makes sense...His career started during the eighties when Molly Ringwald and Judge Reinhold were EXTREMLY popular...What ever happened to them ? ? ? They became famous and then fizzled out.
On the other hand, John has taken supporting roles and leads that have gotten him noticed, but not too noticed, and he has successfully managed to keep himself out of the public's fickle eye. But with such incredible talent, how long can he continue to be ignored by the media?
I know that I am biased because he just happens to be my favorite actor, but this is a man of extrodinary talent and screen presence. He becomes the character he plays in all of his films. He makes them come to life and one must wonder at that. I mean, how many times does he walk down the street only to hear "Hey, you're Lloyd Dobbler!"?
Cusack has no boundaries when it comes to the type of character he can portray, either. He has gone from love-struck teen to hit man to U.S. Marshall, fitting each role with great ease... And it takes quite a bit of genius to accomplish that!
