skysports.planetfootball.comby Patrick Goss Lee Bowyer has insisted that he does not want to leave Newcastle - despite holding talks with other clubs this summer. The midfielder was embroiled in an on-pitch clash with Kieron Dyer that soured his relationship with the hierarchy of the club, culminating in their decision to allow him to hold talks with Birmingham and Charlton over a move. However, the former Leeds United star has told the club's official website that he is desperate to remain a part of the Newcastle squad and will battle to win back the respect of all at the club. "It hasn't been the best of summers for me if I'm honest, it's been very up and down," Bowyer said. "It isn't good when a player is told by his club that he has permission to speak to another club, and you do wonder whether or not you are wanted. "I have been linked with moves here, there and everywhere. I spoke with Birmingham and Charlton, but at the end of the day I didn't want to move away from this club. "I'm settled here now, and as I said I don't want to move away. I don't feel as if I have anything to prove here, and I'm relishing the competition for places." The move will come as a particular blow to Charlton who were keen to bring Bowyer back for a second spell at the club. Newcastle will have no shortage of midfielders next season having signed Scott Parker from Chelsea and Turkish star Emre. ;D A REAL POPPET
