www.leedsunited.comA Football League tribunal hearing has ruled that Leeds United will pay Brighton & Hove Albion an initial £450,000 for defender Dan Harding. The left-back made his move from the Withdean Stadium to Elland Road on July 1st, having turned down a new contract with the Seagulls to become Kevin Blackwell's second summer signing. Although out of contract, Brighton were due compensation for the England under-21 international because he is under the age of 24 and the matter went to a tribunal after the clubs were unable to agree a fee. The fee could rise further depending on appearances and future success. A maximum of £150,000 is payable on appearances, £50,000 for each 20 appearances up to sixty. Brighton would receive £150,000 if United achieve promotion during Harding's initial 3 year contract, and £100,000 would be due if Harding is capped for England during his time at the club. Brighton will also receive 20% of any future transfer fee should the player be sold by Leeds. United manager Kevin Blackwell said: I'm pleased to get this resolved so Dan can now get on with playing for Leeds United."
