This morning the contract that ties Vincenzo Iaquinta to Juventus for the next five years was officially delivered to the Italian Football Association's headquarters.
Vincenzo Iaquinta was born in the city of Crotone on the 21st of November 1979. He is one of the most accomplished strikers in Italy. He was part of the national team that won the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where he scored against Ghana and appeared both in the semi-final and in the final. He has 17 caps in total. Iaquinta developed as a footballer at Reggiolo, and then played for Padova and Castel di Sangro, before joining Udinese in 2000-2001. He stayed there for seven seasons, playing in 187 matches and scoring 64 goals, and also making his Champions League debut (scoring a hat trick in his first match, against Panathinaikos) and taking part in three editions of the UEFA Cup.
« Vincenzo Iaquinta – said Juventus managing director Jean-Claude Blanc – is an important player, another world champion that will help us write glorious new pages in the history of Juventus. He's a true pro, and we welcome him in our team. He has experience and other qualities to offer, and he also has the right enthusiasm and passion to satisfy our supporters. Without doubt this is another step forward for us in setting up a competitive squad for our return to Serie A. ».
For Iaquinta this is a very gratifying move, after playing so well for many seasons, both in the league and with the Azzurri. «I have grown year after year and after seven seasons in Udine it was time to take a step forward so that I can measure myself with the challenges that only a big club like Juventus can offer me. I believe I am the right age to make my dream come true. I'm aware that I've reached the top and that from now on everything will be harder because of the increased pressure. But I like pressure and I can't wait to start this new adventure. It's a great challenge, I face it with enthusiasm and I'm proud to have the chance to help take this team back to the top, both in Italy and in Europe».
