Alan Shearer has revealed he is on the road to management by taking his Uefa coaching badges. The 33-year-old is five weeks into his Uefa B coaching badge which is the first step to gaining a Pro-Licence, a requirement to become a Premiership boss. The former England striker, who retires from playing at the end of next season, said: "I have started doing the qualifications. "I will need them. A few other Newcastle players are doing them too." It is thought that the ex-Southampton star would like to assume the St James' Park mantle one day, although it is not believed that he wants to succeed Sir Bobby Robson at the helm and may possibly spend a few years out of the game continuing his television commitments as an analyser and co-commentator. Speaking on his progress, Shearer added: "What am I like as a coach? You'd better ask the assessors! "I have to do theory tests, study player attitudes, confidence and take coaching sessions. "It's going okay. I will finish the badge by March." Magpies boss Robson has backed his talisman's move: "I am delighted Alan and others have taken up the challenge. "He has obviously got a good option waiting for him in the media as a television analyser – and will have to decide whether it will be media or coaching."
