Chelsea will not take up their ticket allocation for the Champions League match against Besiktas on 9 December. The Blues announced their decision following bombings in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday. The Foreign Office has advised against travel to Besiktas' home city. And Chelsea's interim chief executive Paul Smith said: "That advice, today's bombings of British targets and the unsettled situation there has prompted us to make this final decision." At least 27 people and 450 were injured on Thursday after two bombs exploded. And a pair of synagogue bombings on Saturday also killed 23 people, plus the two suicide bombers. A statement from Chelsea said the club believed "it would not be appropriate for its fans to travel to the match". Chelsea had hoped to ensure that it was safe for fans to travel by working closely with Uefa and the Turkish authorities. But Smith added: "We hope our fans will understand why we have taken this decision and we share their understandable disappointment. "In the end, though, their security had to be our main priority." Earlier Uefa postponed two matches scheduled to be played in Turkey next week. The Champions League Group D match between Galatasaray and Juventus, which was due to be played in Istanbul next Tuesday, has been put back to 2 December. The Uefa Cup tie between Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa and Spanish side Valencia - scheduled for next Thursday in Izmir - has been postponed.
