;D Leeds striker Alan Smith has admitted he is "relieved" that the police investigation against him has been dropped. The Crown Prosecution Service announced on Wednesday that Smith will not be charged with any criminal offence after being arrested for throwing a plastic bottle into the crowd during the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United. The arrest led to the FA dropping the 23-year-old from the England squad to face Denmark on the same day that he had been called up to replace Darius Vassell. "It has been a difficult week but I'm relieved it's over," Smith told The Sun newspaper. "It cost me a place in the England squad which was very important to me - and I hope it hasn't damaged my chances of going to the European Championship finals." England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson admitted that he had not wanted to drop Smith and has re-iterated to the player that his future chances of selection will be unaffected by the incident. "Mr Eriksson has been very good about it all and assured me I'm still in his thoughts," added Smith.
