A SHELL-SHOCKED Peter Reid has ruled out the possibility of him resigning from his post following a 6-1 mauling for United, after which he said his players did not deserve to be paid this week.
The boss was so disgusted with the performance that he has asked every player to take a good look at themselves and certainly they can thank themselves fortunate it is Reid and not them that have to face the press and supporters after the game.
Reid said: "As a manager it was pretty embarrassing for me.
"It has not been a good day for me, I think that will go down as one of the understatements of the year.
"But before anyone asks me there is no question of me resigning, I have never done that and I won't do.
"The biggest concern from my point of view is the lack of desire to win the battle because we didn't have that in our play. Forget about control and passing the ball, it's all about getting your foot in there and the desire to win battles on the football pitch and if we don't do that we're in big trouble!"
The United boss said it was a performance that none of the supporters of this club deserved to witness. He was particularly disappointed with the way the heads sank after conceeding a late first half goal.
"There were a couple of bad goals where I felt my keeper might look at himself, but they happen in football games and it's how we react to them as a team. We reacted in a very poor manner.
"I am not panicking, talk is cheap actions is what it's all about. The players are judged on what they do between 3.00pm and the end of the game and on that evidence they don't deserve to pick up their wage packets.
"The situation we are in at the moment it is going to be a real battle for us and I didn't see any battling qualities out there from players who are pretty well paid - they haven't earned their money today."
