Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson and striker Alan Shearer have won October's Barclaycard Manager and Player of the Month awards. The Magpies were the only unbeaten Premiership team in October, winning all four games after four goals from former England captain Shearer. The panel said: "Sir Bobby Robson has used every ounce of his experience and guile to turn things around. "And Alan Shearer weighed in with four important strikes." The panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans, added: "When in the middle of a bad run Sir Bobby knows he can always rely on his talismanic striker. "This takes his [Shearer's] league tally to nine, ahead of Michael Owen and Ruud van Nistelrooy, not bad for a 33-year-old."
