Serie A Week 37 - 7/5/06 (14.00 UK)
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Siena travel to the San Siro to look for their first ever win over Inter, both Coaches will have points to prove.
Last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Empoli – inflicted by a spectacular long-range own goal from Marco Materazzi in the dying seconds – was the worst possible way for Roberto Mancini to celebrate securing another year at the helm.
Despite a highly disappointing season, club owner Massimo Moratti has confirmed that Mancini will start next season as Inter boss. While a win here may not have any impact on the Nerazzurri’s League position, it would at least silence some of the boo-boys who don’t agree with Moratti’s decision.
Unlike Mancini, Siena Coach Luigi De Canio will be making a fresh start next season. Despite guiding the Tuscans to safety, De Canio has felt the wrath of the Stadio Artemio Franchi faithful. After abusive banners were unveiled again during last weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Juventus, the Bianconeri tactician revealed that he would be leaving. The fans’ mood was not helped by a mid-week war of words. With De Canio having stringently denied that his side would give Juventus an easy three points, the Old Lady’s three goals in the opening eight minutes were hard to swallow.
Mancini still has a huge injury list. Juan Sebastian Veron, Francesco Toldo, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Alvaro Recoba, Esteban Cambiasso and Pierre Wome are all out and it appears that Cristiano Zanetti also won’t feature again this season. Giuseppe Favalli won’t play as he lines up a move across Milan. With the Coppa Italia final first leg looming on Wednesday, Adriano may only play in the second half.
Siena travel without Roberto D’Aversa, Rej Volpato and Igor Tudor who are all injured while Paolo Foglio is suspended. Ex-Inter pair Marco Fortin and Francesco Colonnese will play.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter: Julio Cesar; Burdisso, Cordoba, Samuel, Cesar; J. Zanetti, Pizarro, Kily Gonzalez, Figo; Cruz, Martins
Siena: Fortin; Nergro, Colonnese, Legrottaglie, Molinari; Alberto, Paro, Vergassola, Locatelli; Chiesa, Bogdani
