Inter captain Javier Zanetti has urged his teammates to forget about the away goal they conceded in the first leg of their Champions League tie against Villarreal.
That strike has given the Spaniards hope of reaching the semi-finals of the competition tonight, but the Argentine is archiving that distraction from his mind.
“It certainly would have been better for us had we not conceded a goal at home, but it is no use at all for us to keep thinking about it now,” he said.
“Villarreal came to Milan to play their game and the match started badly for us even if we did turn it around.
“However, we can’t make any more errors on Tuesday otherwise we run the risk of going out of the competition.”
Inter fell behind after just one minute of the initial tie, before they won the match 2-1 and it is that lead that they will be defending this evening.
“Villarreal are a side that have some class players in midfield and in attack,” continued the full-back.
“However, we mustn’t think too much about them. We should just focus on our own game and aim for a victory.”
The Champions League is definitely Inter’s main ambition this season after falling away in the Scudetto race and Zanetti has no doubts about how decisive the game will be for his side’s campaign.
“These games are important to us, even for a club like Inter with such a great history,” continued the defender.
“We know it will be tough, but we will give it our all in an effort to reach the semi-finals of the European Cup.”
