Serie A Week 28 - 5/3/06 (19.30 UK)
Stadio Olimpico
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pick of this week’s fixtures sees Inter travelling to the capital to face on form Roma. In one of Serie A’s mainstay events, these two teams will meet at the Olimpico for the 73rd time. Usually a hugely entertaining encounter, this year promises to be no different as only four points currently separates the two in third and fourth spot respectively. A win for either side here would greatly change the look of the top four.
Roma can’t stop winning at the moment. Their victory in the Rome derby saw them reach their record breaking 11th consecutive win of a historic occasion. Only time will tell how long that run can last but they will be going all out to secure win No 12 in front of the home fans. Desperate to show they aren’t just a one-man team, the Giallorossi will be eager to prove they can continue their form without injured captain Francesco Totti. If the capital club want anything concrete to show for their record-breaking achievements then a win here is essential with Fiorentina still hot on their heels in the race for Champions League football.
Just as their opponents are missing Totti, Inter are without the suspended Adriano which should really mix things up a bit for this game. The Brazilian international has been banned for two matches after appearing to strike out at an opposition player against Livorno, despite previously appealing against the decision successfully.
Coach Roberto Mancini won’t be too concerned though as Julio Cruz’s brace against Udinese suggests he is more than capable of filling in. But that result was the Nerazzurri’s first win in four matches and they will need to overcome some notable absences to get their form back on track here. Juan Veron, Alvaro Recoba, Giuseppe Favalli and Julio Cesar are all injured and Walter Samuel joins suspended Adriano.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma: Doni; Panucci, Mexes, Chivu, Cufre; De Rossi, Dacourt; Taddei, Perrotta, Mancini; Montella
Inter: Toldo; J Zanetti, Cordoba, Materazzi, Burdisso; Figo, Pizarro, Cambiasso, Stankovic; Cruz, Martins
