Inter have given the strongest sign yet that they are willing to re-sign Ronaldo from Real Madrid. “If he is fit both mentally and physically then we will think about it,” said Massimo Moratti.
Ronaldo’s future in Spain has been in doubt ever since he publicly criticised the Bernabeu supporters on the eve of his side’s crucial Champions League home leg against Arsenal last week.
Since then, Milan have issued statements encouraging Ronaldo to consider joining the Rossoneri with both Adriano Galliani and Andriy Shevchenko outspoken in their praise of the Brazilian.
Now the Inter chief has hinted that he would be willing to forgive and forget his prodigal son for walking out on the Nerazzurri four years ago – even though many Inter fans will not be of like mind.
“If he is fit both mentally and physically then we will think about it,” Massimo Moratti told Canale 5 television reporters.
“It is also true that a section of the Nerazzuri fans are still offended that Ronie left and I can understand them.
“Ronaldo was perhaps wrong to say those things about Madrid on the eve of a match but that’s his character,” he added.
Juventus, on the other hand, have ruled out any possibility of signing the man known as ‘Il Fenomeno’.
“Ronaldo doesn’t interest us,” said general director Luciano Moggi. “We have other champions in attack and other targets which were identified a long time ago and upon whom we are working to bring here.”
It looks as though it will be a question of which Milan side to join then for the 29-year-old - whose President at Real, Florentino Perez, is still insisting will remain in Madrid.
