The FIGC has appealed to have Adriano’s two-match ban reinstated this weekend, while Roma’s Daniele De Rossi will miss two UEFA Cup ties.
The Inter striker’s suspension when he was caught on camera slapping Livorno’s Alessandro Grandoni was wiped out on appeal, but the club still doesn’t know whether it will be able to field him against Udinese on Sunday afternoon.
The FIGC is launching an appeal of its own to the CAF, which will only be heard tomorrow at midday local time.
“We repeat what we have said throughout this whole affair,” said President Giacinto Facchetti. “We have full respect in the decisions made by the judges.”
Inter have the support of the ‘victim’ of Adriano’s reaction foul, as Grandoni has come out in favour of the ban’s removal.
“From the images you can clearly see my hand was next to my face, so if it hadn’t been there then I would probably have received a slap,” noted the Livorno defender. “Having said that, it’s impossible to work out what happened from TV footage and, although it wasn’t a nice gesture, it wasn’t worthy of a ban.”
Roma will have to do without midfielder Daniele De Rossi for the first leg of their UEFA Cup clash with Middlesbrough.
The Italian international was sent off for elbowing an opponent during the 2-1 win at Club Brugge and has been handed a two-match ban.
However, as he has already sat out yesterday’s encounter, he has only one game left to run on that suspension and will be back for the second leg.
