Inter’s Ivan Cordoba is hoping to exact revenge for his side’s Serie A defeat to Juventus by beating them in the Champions League.
Cordoba was at the centre of the controversial turning point during the Derby d’Italia when he was adjudged to have brought down Pavel Nedved outside of the area with five minutes to go.
Depsite the Nerazzurri’s insistence that Nedved had dived, the free-kick was awarded and Alessandro Del Piero scored from the set-piece to shatter Inter’s Scudetto hopes.
Now, though, Cordoba is hoping to make amends in Europe, where he wants to meet Juventus again and settle his score with the Bianconeri.
“It would be a good opportunity to send a message out to everyone, including ourselves,” he told Sky television programme Fuori Zona.
“We could show that we didn’t deserve what happened to us – there is not such a big difference between us and Juve.”
Before any third act of the intriguing Inter versus Juve spectacle can be played out, however, Roberto Mancini’s men must first overcome Ajax in the last 16, but Cordoba has more pressing concerns in the form of Livorno this weekend.
Under the guidance of new Coach Carlo Mazzone, the Tuscan side appear to have recovered from their season’s blip and are high on confidence after beating Fiorentina last weekend.
Inter will not relish another trip to Tuscany in the space of 10 days. It was the Viola who ended their 20-match unbeaten run and now they face a side that succeeded where they failed by beating Cesare Prandelli’s men.
“We will be playing a very motivated side who have a very experienced Coach in Mazzone,” said the South American defender.
“However, we want to get back on track and will do whatever it takes to win the match.
“Twelve points puts us a long way behind but it is not too great a lead yet,” he continued.
“You never know, until the maths tells us otherwise we will keep going. A win will also pick us up for the match against the Dutch next week.”
