www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/feb14l.htmlThe verbal battle between Inter star Luis Figo and Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has become a legal one with both clubs threatening action. Figo has been put under investigation for his allegations that Moggi was in referee Gianluca Paparesta’s office before Juve’s 2-1 win at the San Siro on Sunday. “Figo’s accusations are serious, absolutely without foundation and downright false,” read a statement on the official Bianconeri website. “They were made all the more serious by their international context.” Inter hit back almost immediately with a press release of their own. “FC Internazionale considers Juventus Football Club’s action against Luis Figo as an inappropriate act of arrogance.” “The Nerazzurri club reminds that groundless assumptions made about the professionalism of Figo were attributed to Luciano Moggi by the Press. FC Internazionale will defend the reputation of its player in all courts of law and will, if necessary, request punishment for whoever has called into question his honesty and rights to freedom of speech and expression.” The bitter recriminations at the end of Sunday’s Derby d’Italia look set to drag on, as both sides are ready to take the matter through the sporting justice system and perhaps even the libel courts.
