Serie A Week 7 - 16/10/05 (14.00 UK)
Stadio San Siro
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Nerazzurri will be looking to recapture their form against Livorno after their capitulation to Juventus, and need all three points to remain in contention with the current Serie A leaders. Livorno meanwhile, travel to the San Siro eager to reassert their promising start to the season, which has seen them lose only one game and has convinced fans that they have a real chance of competing in Europe next season.
Inter looked tame in the final game before the World Cup qualifiers two weeks ago, offering little resistance to the Bianconeri attacks and conceding twice in the first half to set pieces. Livorno also struggled in their last away match, conceding three goals in a tightly contested match against an impressive Luca Toni inspired Fiorentina side.
Roberto Mancini looks set to alter the squad who lost away to Juve, with Javier and Cristiano Zanetti joined on the injury list by Dejan Stankovic following his thigh strain, which could see him sidelined for up to two months. Roberto Donadoni has an almost complete squad to choose from. Unfortunately the one absentee is influential striker Cristiano Lucarelli, after he was sent off against Fiorentina for dissent. Without last season’s Capocannoniere, the Tuscan side could struggle for goals against the tough Inter defence.
The Amaranti will be looking to record their first win against Inter in over 50 years, after they lost both fixtures on their return to the top flight last season, including a 2-0 defeat at home. But there is expectation in the Nerazzurri camp that they can triumph, with star striker Adriano looking to end a drought which has seen him go without a goal since August in Serie A.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; Cordoba, Materazzi, Samuel, Favalli; Figo, Cambiasso, Veron, Solari; Adriano, Martins
Livorno (probable): Amelia; Grandoni, Vargas, Galante; Balleri, Morrone, Passoni, De Ascentis, Coco; Palladino, Bakayoko
