www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/sep10h.htmlRoberto Mancini concedes they were beaten by the better team on the night in Palermo, but insists that Inter have no reason to panic. “It was a long time since we’d lost an official match and we’re not quite accustomed to it yet,” said the Coach after their 3-2 defeat. “That perhaps makes this feel worse than it really is. It can happen that you get a back day, although I can’t say Inter played badly.” The Sicilians could easily have won with a much larger scoreline and were winning 3-0, having also rattled the crossbar twice and brought a series of saves out of Julio Cesar. “Palermo deserve praise for a great performance in which they scored two goals on set-pieces at the start of each half. That changed the game and they had more excellent scoring opportunities.” Two late goals from Julio Cruz made the result less embarrassing, but this is not the best performance with which to go into their Champions League opener. “The lads did what they had to do and could perhaps have been a little more concentrated, but if there’s anyone to be blamed then it should be me,” noted Mancini. “We shouldn’t panic, as if anything this defeat could prove useful in the future of this Scudetto race.”
