Serie A Week 1 - 28/8/05 (14.00 UK)
STADIO SAN SIRO
With Walter Samuel’s suspension making him Inter’s only absentee, Roberto Mancini has a huge array of talent to choose from. The biggest selection shock is likely to see Julio Cesar being handed the goalkeeper’s jersey ahead of Francesco Toldo. Marco Materazzi will fill-in for Samuel with Giuseppe Favalli finishing off the defence, chosen ahead of Pierre Wome at left-back. Juan Sebastian Veron looks set to miss-out as Esteban Cambiasso will partner new-boy David Pizarro in midfield. Luis Figo may also make his debut while Dejan Stankovic is set to be preferred to Santiago Solari on the left wing.
A number of players will make their debut for Treviso, including the Filippini brothers and Andre Pinga. Much will depend on how well these players settle, especially in the midfield where only Fabio Gallo remains from last season. The experienced Stefano Lorenzi will help organise the defence but Samir Handanovic will still need to show his full potential to keep out Obafemi Martins and Adriano.
With such a huge gap between the two squads it is hard to see the Nerazzurri not dominating, especially at the San Siro. Unless the weight of early expectation proves too much for them, expect Treviso to spend much of this game entrenched in their own half. The Biancocelesti will probably resort to long-ball tactics as their only hope of a goal, with target man Luigi Beghetto purchased in the summer for just this reason.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; J Zanetti, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli; Figo, Pizarro, Cambiasso, Stankovic; Adriano, Martins
Treviso (probable): Handanovic; Galeoto, Cottafava, Lorenzi, Dossena; A Filippini, E Filippini, Gallo, Pinga; Reginaldo, Beghetto
