Captain Javier Zanetti insists that boss Alberto Zaccheroni is not to blame for Inter’s latest crisis.
The Nerazzurri’s season took a turn for the worse yesterday after a 1-0 home defeat to Empoli left them in fourth – a massive 11 points behind leaders Roma.
"We are going through a difficult spell and we must all, the club and the players, stay compact," said the Argentine.
"Otherwise it will get even more difficult. We are all on trial at this club but that doesn’t include the Coach."
Inter’s performance against the Tuscan outfit didn’t go down well with the fans. Many of whom left the arena well before the final whistle.
"It was a horrible defeat and we are disappointed with the result and how we played," he continued.
"Things improved after the break but we simply didn’t create the chances in order to get the result we wanted.
"I understand the reaction of the fans as they expect results. But all of the squad is working hard."
It’s been an uneasy past few weeks for everyone involved with the club after the problems surrounding Christian Vieri.
The striker was fined by the club after he refused to travel to Udinese for last Tuesday’s Coppa Italia tie.
"Let’s be serious. Vieri is not a problem," insisted the Argentine. "We really haven’t got the time to think about the Vieri saga.
"We have the return game this week where we will look for a win which would ease our current situation."
All of the squad were back in training today but that didn’t include Vieri who is still struggling with the muscle problem which ruled him out of the Empoli game.
Meanwhile, Khalilou Fadiga could be about to return to training with Inter after his heart problems.
His agent insists that the Senegal international, a summer signing from Auxerre, could be back in Milan at the end of this month.
