Demetrio Albertini believes that Lazio can end Inter’s unbeaten run under Alberto Zaccheroni this Sunday night.
“The Nerazzurri are one of the most on form sides in Serie A right now,” conceded the former Milan legend.
“It won’t be easy to get the better of them, but I am convinced that if Lazio play with the same attitude they showed against Juventus then the three points will be ours.”
The Romans saw off Juve 2-0 in their most convincing display of the season so far, but last Sunday it took a late Fabio Liverani strike to beat bottom of the table Ancona.
These two teams also share a common bond, as both Lazio and Inter were eliminated from the Champions’ League at the first hurdle.
“Our objective is to concentrate on the League,” continued Albertini, “even if we must not snub the Coppa Italia.”
“I think that we are just lacking a bit of consistency, because we have proved that with the right mentality we can beat anyone.”
It will be a particularly heartfelt game for the midfielder, as he comes face to face with old rivals Inter.
“I don’t know how it will feel,” noted the ex-Rossoneri man. “After all, my last Scudetto was won with Zaccheroni on the bench and we have mutual respect.”
“The important thing is to win, as that will allow us to leapfrog past Inter and back into fourth place.”
There is bad injury news for the Biancocelesti, as goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi has officially been ruled out with a heavy bruise to his thigh.
Simone Inzaghi is also sidelined for a month after fracturing his hand, while Dejan Stankovic continues to sit out his three-match ban.
Inter hope to recover Daniele Adani in time for Sunday’s clash, although he will wear a protective mask following surgery for a fractured nose.
“It will be a very difficult game,” assured the defender. “Right now we are doing well in Serie A, but Lazio represent a test to prove whether we are mature enough to really go for it.”
