The Nerazzurri were dead and buried but burst back into the title race with a memorable 3-1 win at Juventus.
Alberto Zaccheroni’s side is nothing if not unpredictable, winning 6-0, losing 5-1 and emerging with a 3-1 victory in the space of one week. Confidence is now sky high and it will be important to keep that momentum going ahead of their crucial Champions’ League trip to Kiev.
Curiously, so far under Zac, Inter have shown that they play better without hitman Christian Vieri in the line-up. Out with a back injury in Turin, his side was able to spread the play through Julio Cruz and Obafemi Martins. Fabio Cannavaro was also on the sidelines for the Juve victory and will return for this encounter at the San Siro. Marco Materazzi and Francesco Coco remain in the stands with thigh problems.
Perugia are on stunning form in the UEFA Cup, but are still looking for their first Serie A win of the season. Lodged in the relegation zone, they missed a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Empoli last week and saw Zisis Vryzas pick up their fifth red card of the campaign.
The Greek international will be suspended, along with Marco Di Loreto, but Giovanni Ignoffo, Chris Obodo and Seuleymane Diamoutene return from their bans. This gives Jay Bothroyd his chance to shine alongside Massimo Margiotta after he was pushed on to the bench for recent outings.
