Less than 24 hours after the 3-0 defeat away to Lokomotiv Moscow, Alberto Zaccheroni was officially sworn in as Nerazzurri coach. "It's nice to have such a positive welcome on my arrival," said the 50-year-old at Wednesday's official presentation. "Myself and president Moratti have the same ambitions and the same enthusiasm, and it's down to me to transmit these ambitions and this enthusiasm to the team."
Zac becomes the fifth coach to lead both Milanese teams. Jozsef Viola coached Inter in the 1928/29 season and AC Milan in 1933/44. Luigi Radice was Rossoneri coach when Milan were relegated to the Serie B in 1981/82 then two seasons later took Inter to fourth position in the top flight.
Current Azzurri boss Giovanni Trapattoni joined AC Milan towards the end of the 1973/74 season, which the team finished in seventh place. He coached the Rossoneri to thir d spot in 1975/76, then just over a decade later took over at Inter, where from 1986-1991 he won a Scudetto, an Italian Super Cup and a UEFA Cup.
Ilario Castagner brought Milan out of the Serie B in 1982/83 then remained for part of the successive season. He moved across town in 1984/85 and lasted until the start of the 1985/86 campaign.
