Carlos Tevez's goal gave Argentina victory in the men's football final, their first gold medal in 52 years.
Tevez struck on 18 minutes to earn the Argentines a 1-0 win over Paraguay, who had two men sent off in the game.
It is the first time Argentina has won the Olympic football title, while Paraguay will take solace from taking their first-ever Olympic medal.
Earlier, Ian Wynne won Great Britain's first medal of day 15, taking a bronze in the men's K1 500m kayak final.
Wynne, who injured his ankle stepping off a bus on Friday night, produced a strong finish to take third.
Adam von Koeverden of Canada took the gold, with Australia's double world champion Nathan Baggaley second.
Later, on the track, Kelly Holmes is aiming for her second gold.
Holmes is strongly fancied to win the 1500m after victory in 800m, but will have to watch out for the threat of Ethiopia's Berhane Adere.
Holmes will, once again, be aiming to boost British morale after Paula Radcliffe once again dropped out of a race, this time the 10,000m on Friday night.
Radcliffe admitted her distress after the run - but said she will be back.
"It has totally crushed me emotionally. I am going to have to give my body time to get over that," she said.
"I need time to get over the devastation here but I'll be back."
Kenenisa Bekele and Hicham El Guerrouj will go head-to-head in the men's 5,000m final as both men chase their second gold medal of the Games.
Former world champion Wilson Kipketer is among those going for gold in the men's 800m final.
The final evening of athletics in the Olympic Stadium also sees Steve Backley and the relay squads in action.
Olympic veteran Backley only just squeezed into the javelin final in qualifying.
And Team GB will also hope to pick up medals in the relay finals, the men's 4x100m and 4x400m and the women's 4x400m.
In the canoeing, Andreas Dittmer of Germany came from behind to win the men's C1 500m title - winning his third Olympic gold in the process.
Hungary's Natasa Janics won the women's K1 500m category, with Britain's Lucy Hardy in seventh place.
Other highlights later on day 15 include China and Russia in the women's volleyball final and the USA taking on Australia in the women's basketball final.
And Argentina and Italy will battle to succeed the USA as men's basketball champions.
