Inter captain Javier Zanetti has warned referee Gianluca Paparesta to be at his best in Sunday’s game against Juventus.
The Bari official has been handed the Scudetto showdown in the aftermath of the recent refereeing controversy in Serie A.
“I hope nothing strange happens in the match on Sunday,” said the Nerazzurri defender this afternoon.
“The fans want a great game and also want entertaining. But above all the Inter supporters want a victory.
“The arguments are part of the game. In the past, matches between Inter and Juve have seen many things happen, but in the end it is always us who seem to come off the worse.”
Juventus have arguably benefited from refereeing mistakes over the last two games against Udinese and Parma.
Alex Del Piero’s goal against the other Bianconeri was clearly offside, while they were awarded an inexistent penalty against the Gialloblu for a ‘foul’ on Patrick Vieira.
“I was very surprised that Juve got that penalty, when it clearly wasn’t,” he said. “The referee had a certain interpretation and we have to believe him!”
Inter, nine points behind the Turin giants in the table, need a victory to open up the Scudetto chase once more and the Argentine is in confident mood.
“If we can play like we did in the last home game against Chievo then we can get a result,” he underlined. “The team played excellently and deserved the victory.
“We must always trust in the work we do and if we believe in ourselves we will be rewarded, but we know it will be a hard game against Juve.”
Zanetti will make his 475th appearance for Inter at the weekend after he moved into sixth place in the club’s all-time list.
The attacking full-back moved ahead of Walter Zenga, who had collected 473 appearances, during Wednesday’s 2-1 loss at Fiorentina.
His next target will be Mario Corso on 502 even if he is unlikely to reach the leading pair of Giuseppe Bergomi, 758, and Giacinto Facchetti, 634.
