Jordan's King Abdullah cancelled a planned visit to Ramallah on Sunday because of disagreements with Israel regarding the trip's agenda, unofficial Palestinian sources reported.
However, according to officials in Ramallah, the change of plans was the result of "bad weather conditions."
"The king's visit today has been postponed because of bad weather conditions and arrangements are being made to hold this meeting in a few days' time," said Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' spokesman, Nabil Abu Rdainah.
The king was scheduled to fly to the West Bank for talks with Abbas on a possible renewal of the peace talks with Israel, ahead of Abdullah's
meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Amman Tuesday.
Sources in Abbas' office said that "the king had hoped that he would be able to inform the Palestinians that in his planned meeting with Olmert, the two would announce the beginning of a serious diplomatic process, which would lead to a series of goodwill gestures, including relief measures in the territories.
"But his efforts to obtain such commitment from the Israelis failed, and therefore he cancelled his trip."
Meanwhile, the al-Jazeera television channel reported that the trip had been called off due to Israel's refusal to allow PA Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to accompany Abdullah in his visit to the Muqataa in Ramallah.
