Leeds United striker Alan Smith has been recalled to the England squad for the friendly with Portugal in Faro on Wednesday.
Smith, who scored when the two countries last met but was sent-off on his last England appearance, was given a late call for the Denmark game but controversially sent home after it emerged he was questioned by police.
Uncapped Liverpool keeper Chris Kirkland is also in the 24-man party for the Sky Live game against the Euro 2004 hosts, while his Reds team-mate Jamie Carragher is back in the squad for the first time since last summer.
But coach Sven Goran Eriksson has dropped Chelsea's new signing Scott Parker and Blues right back Glen Johnson, who both made their debuts against Denmark.
Birmingham City centre back Matthew Upson has been omitted with Eriksson opting for Middlesbrough captain Gareth Southgate as an alternative to John Terry and Sol Campbell in the centre of defence.
However, the Arsenal defender (groin) is a doubt for a back four already without the injured Jonathan Woodgate and the suspended Rio Ferdinand while Gary Neville's thigh injury, rather than his red card in the Manchester derby on Saturday, is the reason for his exclusion.
Also out is Southampton's out-of-form striker James Beattie, who lost out to Smith, while Tottenham Hotspur new boy Jermain Defoe was also ignored.
And there is no place for Celtic's uncapped midfielder Alan Thompson, who had been touted for a call-up by Tord Grip, or his Bhoys team-mate Chris Sutton.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has not been named in the squad as his girlfriend is due to give birth to their first child next week, so Jermaine Jenas and Owen Hargreaves are given chances in midfield.
Leicester City keeper Ian Walker, who has had a turbulent few weeks, has been dropped by Eriksson.
I might even watch the game meself now
