Nine Inch Nails hammers out release date for 'Spiral' reissue by Jon Zahlaway liveDaily Staff Writer Nine Inch Nails anchorman Trent Reznor will release a deluxe edition of 1994's "The Downward Spiral" next month, but plans for the DVD version of his 1997 tour documentary "Closure" have fallen into a legal limbo. Due in stores on Nov. 23, the deluxe edition of "The Downward Spiral" is a two-disc set that will feature a hybrid CD/SACD containing digitally remastered versions of the album's original tracks in stereo, high-resolution stereo and high-resolution 5.1 digital surround sound; the disc will play in regular CD players and in SACD players. A second disc will house a compilation of remixes, b-sides, demos and non-album tracks, including previously unreleased material. The complete track list is posted at Nine Inch Nails' website, as is a picture of the deluxe CD's redesigned package. NIN will also release a DVD-audio version of "The Downward Spiral" that will include the original album digitally remixed and remastered in stereo and 5.1 surround sound, as well as an image gallery, discography and the music videos for "Closer," "March of the Pigs" and "Hurt." Earlier this year, Reznor announced plans to release the "Closure" DVD in conjunction with the deluxe edition of "The Downward Spiral." Previously available only in VHS format, the film documents Nine Inch Nails' mid-'90s tour in support of "The Downward Spiral," and also features the group's music videos. The new digital version was expected to house 90 minutes of additional footage not included on the original release, according to Reznor's July announcement. "Unfortunately, the 'Closure' DVD is tied up in legal problems at the moment and looks unlikely to see release until early 2005," reads a new message posted at NIN's website. "We apologize for the delay, we're as frustrated about it as you are and we'll let you know of any changes. Meanwhile, Reznor continues to work on NIN's next album, tentatively titled "Bleedthrough." An early 2005 release is expected for the set, which follows 1999's "The Fragile." "We are entering the final phase of the record," reads a September message posted on the band's site. According to the message, Reznor has apparently vacated Nothing Studios--his personal recording studio in New Orleans since 1995--and relocated to the West Coast "indefinitely." www.livedaily.com/news/7142.html?t=98
