Matthew Stevens survived a major scare to beat Jimmy White 9-7 and book his place in the UK Championship final. Stevens went into the evening session leading 5-3 and needing just four more frames for victory. But White won the next two and had Stevens in trouble as he went 7-6 up with another two-frame burst. Stevens, however, hit back to level, moved in front with a 62 break and won the next 62-24 to set up a meeting with Stephen Hendry or Ronnie O'Sullivan. The result was a major disappointment for White, who was troubled all evening by one vocal supporter. "There was one geezer who should have been ejected," White said. "He was someone who wanted to be heard. Every time the crowd would go quiet this one would call out. "I really though the tournament director, Mike Ganley, would have had him thrown out." Stevens added: "It didn't bother me because I only had two supporters out there. "But the guy should have been kicked out. Someone should have grabbed him after the first frame."
