Inter striker Adriano has publicly apologised to his teammates for failing to return from international duty on time.
The Brazilian was set to arrive back in the peninsula on Saturday morning after his original flight was delayed by a technical problem.
But he only landed in Italy on Sunday and subsequently missed the 5-0 win over Livorno yesterday afternoon.
"I must say sorry to the squad and I’ve asked to be fined," the South American stated on Monday evening.
"That is the right thing to do because I made a mistake. I want to be a part of this squad and I will talk to my teammates to clear everything up."
Adriano’s no show clearly angered boss Roberto Mancini on Saturday and Juan Sebastian Veron was just as vocal following the Week 7 win.
"Veron was right to say what he did, my actions did suggest a lack of respect to my teammates," the former Parma man continued.
"If we are a team then things need to be decided as a team. The most important thing now is to figure things out with the squad.
"But I don’t need to explain myself to Veron, he is not the captain. I will talk to the side and if Veron wants an answer then I will discuss it with him too."
The midfielder was visibly annoyed by Adriano’s actions and insisted today that he had no regrets about what he said.
"My position remains the same," Veron stated. "And this has nothing to do with the fact that I am Argentine and he is Brazilian.
"I can accept the fact that a player can arrive late, it has happened to me. However, I have never missed a game because of it.
"Alvaro Recoba arrived later than planned but he was on the pitch with us against Livorno."
Adriano actually returned to action today when he featured in the 1-0 friendly loss against Venezuela at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
