Serie A Week 2 - 10/9/05 (18.00 UK)
Stadio Barbera
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of the four goals that were scored in the meetings between these two sides last season three – two by Christian Vieri and one from Luca Toni – were netted by players who have now left their respective clubs. Despite this though expect this encounter to have plenty of scoring opportunities, especially with Adriano in scintillating form.
Palermo Coach Gigi Del Neri has decided to stick with an unchanged side after the Week 1 draw with Parma. This could disappoint Franco Brienza and Massimo Mutarelli who may well have thought their substitute appearances at the Tardini may have warranted a starting place this time around. Andrea Caracciolo and Stephen Makinwa will be grateful after neither managed to score in the opening round of fixtures. Makinwa especially will be relieved to have kept his place after missing more than one easy chance to secure all three points against the Gialloblu.
All Inter eyes will be focused on Adriano after last week’s double hat tricks for Brazil and the Nerazzurri, but their opponents will be firmly on their defence. With Javier Zanetti’s injury adding to that of Sinisa Mihajlovic and the suspension of Walter Samuel, Inter must rely on Jose Zè Maria and the often erratic Marco Materazzi. In midfield, Coach Roberto Mancini has already begun his predicted squad rotation with Juan Veron and Dejan Stankovic making way for David Pizarro and Santiago Solari. The most notable decision though was the inclusion of Alvaro Recoba as Adriano’s striking partner despite the availability of Obafemi Martins. Martins will have to start from the bench after Recoba’s impressive display in the 3-0 win over Treviso.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Palermo (probable): Guardalben; Zaccardo, Terlizzi, Barzagli, Grosso; Santana, Barone, Corini, Bonanni; Caracciolo, Makinwa
Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; Zè Maria, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli; Figo, Cambiasso, Pizarro, Solari; Adriano, Recoba
