www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jul24f.htmlInter’s pursuit of Real Madrid stopper Walter Samuel will continue on Monday as another round of talks is scheduled. Real emissaries and FIFA agents Ernesto Bronzetti and Peppino Tirri will again meet with Nerazzurri officials in an attempt to finalise a deal. The Italian giants are openly looking for a new central defender and have been tracking the Argentine for months. Inter boss Roberto Mancini wants a defender signed by August 4, the Champions’ League deadline, in order to have him available for the tournament’s preliminary round. However, there is still an economical difference between what Real and what the player want from the San Siro outfit. Walter Samuel is now widely considered as Inter’s top transfer priority given the problems at Roma. Giallorossi stopper Cristian Chivu was also a contender but the capital outfit’s failure to have their transfer embargo scrapped means his exit is unlikely. Roma are not prepared to release the Romanian seeing as they are currently not permitted to sign any players and therefore a direct replacement. Inter have been relatively quiet on the transfer market to date, with Santiago Solari of Real Madrid and Udinese playmaker David Pizarro their biggest swoops up until now.
