Inter chief Massimo Moratti has confirmed that the Nerazzurri could swoop for Dejan Stankovic. "This isn’t the right time to be talking about transfers but we will evaluate the Stankovic situation from mid-January," said the oil baron. The Lazio midfielder has long been linked with a switch to the San Siro outfit as his contract in Rome expires at the end of this season. But Moratti’s admission has convinced many pundits in the peninsula that the Serbian’s next club will definitely be Inter. The former Red Star ace looks like a certainty to quit the Stadio Olimpico next summer after failing to agree terms over a new contract. Milan, Juventus and Chelsea have all been linked but whispers suggest that Stankovic already has a verbal agreement with Moratti’s outfit. Inter boss Alberto Zaccheroni claimed yesterday that the club didn’t need any January reinforcements but Stankovic’s arrival may be on the horizon. If Lazio fail to qualify for the next stage of the Champions’ League then the capital club could sell the 25-year-old for a nominal fee. Meanwhile, Moratti has again insisted that there is no split between the club and Christian Vieri. "There aren’t any problems with Vieri," he claimed. "All the stories are simply inventions of the media."
