Jens cemented his reputation as one of Europe's finest goalkeepers with a string of outstanding performances for club and country last season. His experience, shot-stopping ability and safe handling was vital as the Gunners reached the Champions League Final for the first time.

Two stops in Europe stand out - a brilliant save to deny Real Madrid striker Raul at Highbury and the penalty heroics which denied Juan Roman Riquelme of Villarreal in the Semi-Final. In the Premiership, perhaps Jens' finest performance came at Anfield where he produced three world-class saves and saved Steven Gerrard's penalty.

Jens' consistency persuaded Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann to hand him the No 1 jersey at the 2006 World Cup. Jens vindicated that decision with some assured displays and two saves in the penalty shoot-out victory against Argentina in the Quarter Finals.

Jens has been at Highbury since the summer of 2003 and lost just three out of 66 Premiership games in his first two years at Arsenal. He won the UEFA Cup and the Bundesliga during his time in Germany.

My Year

June
Jens put in some fine displays as Germany finished third at this year’s World Cup. The goalkeeper kept clean sheets against both Ecuador and Poland in the group phase and Sweden in the second round before he enjoyed his finest moment of the competition in the Quarter Finals. Following 120 minutes of goalless action between the hosts and Argentina, Jens saved penalties from Roberto Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso to carry Germany through to the Semis.

May
A mixed month for Jens who suffered heartbreak in the Champions League Final as the Gunners lost 2-1 to Barcelona. He had produced a string of sensational displays in the earlier rounds of the competition but after felling Samuel Eto’o in the opening 20 minutes, he was dismissed for a professional foul. Earlier in the month, Jens kept a clean sheet as Arsenal won 3-0 at Sunderland and started the wins over Manchester City and Wigan as the Gunners secured fourth spot in the Premiership.

April
A memorable month for Jens which began with a clean sheet at home to Aston Villa and ended with him saving Juan Roman Riquelme's late penalty at Villarreal to send Arsenal to the Champions League Final. In between, Jens kept clean sheets at Juventus and at home to Villarreal as well as keeping goal in the four other Premiership fixtures of the month.

March
Another highly impressive month for the German international who started all five fixtures as the Gunners recorded wins over Fulham, Liverpool and Charlton as well as reaching the Champions League last eight. A stunning second-half save to deny Raul secured a goalless draw against Real Madrid at Highbury — and with it a place in the Quarter Finals.

February
An outstanding month for Jens who produced a clutch of top-class displays. He played in all five league games in February and was particularly impressive in the games against Birmingham and Liverpool — where he was named man of the match — and Arsenal’s historic win at Real Madrid.

January
Jens enjoyed a mixed month which began with a clean sheet in the goalless draw with Man Utd. He sat out Cup games with Cardiff and Wigan before returning to keep another clean sheet against Middlesbrough. Jens was back at Everton but could do little to prevent James Beattie from netting the winner for the Toffees.

December
Jens was in goal for the three consecutive league defeats against Bolton, Newcastle and Chelsea, but returned from a Carling Cup rest to keep clean sheets in the wins over Charlton and Portsmouth. Jens ended the month with another assured performance and another clean sheet at Villa Park.

November
Jens sat out Arsenal's first game of the month with a minor back complaint but was back in goal for the win over Sunderland and could do nothing to prevent Alan Stubbs solitary strike for the Black Cats. The German international kept goal for the 3-2 win at Wigan but sat out the win at Thun with a recurrence of his back problem. Jens returned to end his month on a high by keeping a clean sheet at home to Blackburn, twice denying Craig Bellamy in a fine performance.

Vassiriki Abou Diaby

Abou made a promising start to his Arsenal career before Sunderland defender Dan Smith fractured and dislocated his ankle with a late challenge at the Stadium of Light in May. Abou is expected to be out until the end of the year while he recovers.

Before his injury Abou showed huge promise. He was Arsenal’s first signing of the January transfer window after following in the footsteps of Eric Cantona and Djibril Cisse by progressing through the youth academy at Auxerre.

Abou immediately added steel to the Arsenal midfield where his height, strength and determination makes him an imposing presence and invites comparisons with a young Patrick Vieira. Abou played in all four competitions for the Gunners last season - coming off the bench at Real Madrid and Juventus - and opened his account with a well-taken goal in the 5-0 victory over Aston Villa at Highbury.

The young Frenchman led his country to success at the European Under-19 Championships in 2005 and looks to have a very bright future once he regains his fitness.

My Year

May
Abou's season was ended in the dying minutes of the 3-0 win at Sunderland after he broke and dislocated his ankle in a challenge by Dan Smith.

April
Abou enjoyed a fine start to April with his first goal in Arsenal colours in the win over Aston Villa. The midfielder then made substitute appearances at Juventus and Manchester United and started the games with Portsmouth, West Brom and Tottenham Hotspur. He was an unused substitute in both legs against Villarreal.

March
Abou began March with a start in the win at Fulham and would have opened his account in an Arsenal shirt but for the heroics of Tony Warner in the hosts’ goal. The 19-year-old was an unused substitute against Real Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League and missed Premiership wins over Liverpool and Charlton through injury. Abou also made one appearance for the second-string in March - the 2-0 win over Charlton at Underhill.

February
Abou continued his integration into the Arsenal first team in February with starts against West Ham, Birmingham, Bolton and Blackburn. The former Auxerre midfielder was particularly impressive in the win at Birmingham, marshalling the midfield with maturity and providing the cross from which fellow new boy Emmanuel Adebayor scored the opener.

January
Abou made his debut as a substitute against Everton following his arrival from Auxerre. He went on to start the games against Wigan and Bolton and showed glimpses of what is to come with some neat touches and fierce tackling.

Ashley was simply outstanding last season. Speed and attacking instincts were already part of his game but his defensive positioning improved markedly in 2002-03. He grabbed his only goal of the season against West Brom on August 27.

A hernia problem required an operation in mid-February but he returned in time for the FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United and was back to his best when he played in the final at the Millennium Stadium.

Ashley will not be 25 until Christmas but he has already packed a massive amount into his fledging career.

He picked up his third FA Cup winner's medal last season and that will fit nicely alongside his two Premiership medals.

The left back coolly slotted away his penalty in the Final against Manchester United and rose to the occasion in an earlier shoot-out after a fifth-round battle with Sheffield United.

Ashley showed a striker's instinct to register well-taken goals at Manchester City and Aston Villa in the Premiership and was consistent as ever on the left flank.

My Year
September
Played in all five fixtures and as usual got forward to support the attack very well. Unlucky not to have scored or at least claimed an assist with a wicked cross-shot against Everton at Highbury.

August
Started all three games in the Premiership. Ashley was booked in the games against west London duo Fulham and Chelsea.

Summer
Called up for England's tour of the United States and started both games at left-back as the US and Colombia were beaten. A regular in pre-season and one of Arsenal's outstanding performers at the Community Shield.

May
An ever-present in May, Ashley set up Jose Antonio Reyes' goal against Liverpool at Highbury and rounded off the season in style with a coolly-taken penalty in the shoot-out victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup Final. "We did not have many chances but we defended well and battled hard," he said afterwards.

Robert was still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury when last season began. When it ended he was a hero after scoring the only goal in the FA Cup final. Scoring was a feature of Robert's game last season. He grabbed 14 in just 20 Premiership starts, including a hat-trick against Southampton in the final home game.

Robert also hit the net for France against Japan in the Confederations Cup, marking his first game as captain of his country.

Robert has become a reliable source of goals from midfield and found the net 16 times last season. His shimmy and clever finish at Tottenham and a curling free-kick against Liverpool were perhaps the pick of the bunch.

The French winger finished the season as the Premiership's third highest scorer but his game is about much more than goals. Robert rarely gives the ball away and his defensive work on the left flank is underrated.

One of only five players in history to be named Football Writers' Player of the Year - in 2002 - Robert remains a key figure in Arsène Wenger's line-up.

My Year
September
Started against Boro, Thun and Everton but was forced to come off after 29 minutes against the Toffees after a late challenge by Phil Neville. Returned from injury to produce a disciplined display at Ajax, slotting home what proved to be the winner from the penalty spot.

August
Started the opening day fixture at home to Newcastle before occupying the 'Bergkamp role' just behind Thierry Henry at Stamford Bridge to accomodate Alexander Hleb on the left wing. He was an unused substitute against Fulham.

Summer
Started the vast majority of Arsenal's pre-season fixtures and scored against Utrecht during the tour of Holland. Also on target in the 6-2 friendly win at Boreham Wood.

May
A good month for Robert. He netted three times to finish as the Premiership's third highest scorer - a phenomenal achievement for a midfielder - with a sumptuous free-kick against Liverpool and two more against Everton boosting his tally. Rested at Birmingham, Robert returned for the FA Cup Final but was substituted during extra-time.

Freddie hit a hat-trick in the final game of the Premiership season at Sunderland. It was a fitting way for the wide midfielder to finish after a disappointing start. He was forced to miss the opening month after picking up a hip injury while on World Cup duty with Sweden.

He scored on his return to the side against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and, after the season, was on target for his country in the 6-0 win over San Marino.

Freddie was a model of consistency last season, mixing tenacity with skill and his fair share of goals from the right side of midfield.

The Swede was Arsenal's outstanding player during the winter months, making up for a dip in form elsewhere on the pitch. He was laid low by migraines in December but returned to score five times in six games at the start of 2005.

Freddie scored the winner at Bolton in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals and kept his nerve to score from the spot in the shoot-out at the end of the Final in May.

My Year
September
Missed the Boro game through injury but recovered to start against Thun, Everton, West Ham and Ajax. Almost scored against Thun but his poked effort went just wide. Hit the bar against Everton but went one better as a makeshift striker in Holland, scoring with an exquisite chip after just 80 seconds.

August
Great performance against Newcastle, winning a penalty before supplying the cross for Van Persie to make it 2-0. His start to the season was slightly marred by an injury picked up early in the game at Chelsea when he collided with an advertising board, keeping him out of the Fulham game.

Summer
Started summer in style with a goal for Sweden in their World Cup qualifying victory over Malta. Continued in goalscoring vein at the Amsterdam Tournament, netting twice after coming on as a sub in the 2-1 win against Porto.

May
Returned from injury to play 68 minutes at Birmingham and came off the bench again in the FA Cup Final. Freddie had time to make two crucial interventions, heading Ruud van Nistelrooy's goalbound effort onto the crossbar before scoring in the penalty shoot-out. "It was great to play a part in it," said Freddie.

A young Spanish player who has recently broken into the national team, Jose Reyes is one of the most promising talents in European football.

Blessed with excellent technique and vision, Reyes can operate on either flank or as a deep-lying striker.

Reyes joined Seville at the age of nine and made his first-team debut at 17. He scored in his second game for the Spanish club, against Espanyol.

After scoring 22 goals in 82 starts for Seville, Reyes joined Arsenal in January 2004.

Jose Antonio showed signs of his best form as last season drew to a close, scoring the winner in the North London derby and adding another goal against Liverpool to take his tally to 12 for the campaign.

The Spaniard started last term in fine fettle, earning the man-of-the-match award at the Community Shield and scoring in Arsenal's first five Premiership games as his partnership with Thierry Henry blossomed.

Jose Antonio's form dipped during the winter but, as the Spaniard settled off the pitch, his performances improved once more. With a first full season in English football under his belt, expect Jose Antonio to shine in 2005/06.

My Year
September
A fine month for Jose. He could have had a hat-trick at Boro but had to settle for a individual effort in stoppage time after hitting the post in the first half. The Spaniard's accuracy from set pieces led to headed goals for Gilberto against Thun and Campbell against Everton. Jose finished the month by winning the decisive penalty against Ajax in Amsterdam.

August
Jose missed the opening Premiership match against Newcastle through suspension following his sending off in the FA Cup Final in May. He was not involved against Chelsea either but started the third Premiership game at home to Fulham and was very lively providing an assist for Henry's first goal.

Summer
A regular starter in pre-season. Started games against Barnet, Ritzing, Ajax, Porto and Boreham Wood, netting five goals in total. Looked lively after coming off the bench at the Community Shield.

"It was a special moment," said Dennis after scoring his 100th goal for Arsenal in the FA Cup third-round tie with Oxford at Highbury. The Dutchman has been a magnificent servant to Arsenal and once again pulled the strings alongside Thierry Henry in attack last season.

It was apt that he got the chance to play against his first team, Ajax, in the Champions League last term, where he received a rapturous reception from the crowd at Amsterdam ArenA.

Dennis has graced Highbury for a decade and will spend one more year at Arsenal after proving he could still cut it at the top level in 2004/05.

The Dutch maestro made 38 appearances and scored eight times, but it was his poise and eye for the killer pass which once again stood out.

At 36, Dennis is in the twilight of his career but still boasts vision and poise that few can match. And he's still a firm favourite with the Highbury crowd.

Dennis retired from international football five years ago with an honourable record of 37 goals in 79 games.

My Year
September
Dennis started at Middlesbrough and was instrumental in the Gunners' early dominance. He came off the bench to net a last-minute winner against Thun in the Champions League. Earmarked for a role against former club Ajax in Amsterdam before injury ruled him out.

August
In the starting XI on the opening day of the season against Newcastle and was one of Arsenal's major threats before making way for Robin van Persie. Dennis was an unused substitute against Chelsea but started the game at home to Fulham, taking the free-kick from which Cygan levelled. Picked up a booking later in the game.

Summer
Kicked off his final year at the Club with a classic strike against Barnet. Also scored against Weiz and Ritzing during the Austria leg of Arsenal's pre-season preparations and started against former club Ajax in Amsterdam.

"He is a top, top class player," said Arsène Wenger of Robin van Persie shortly after signing him in the summer of 2004. The Arsenal manager has been proved right ever since.

Robin shone in the first half of last season, scoring a breathtaking left-foot volley from the edge of the area against Charlton and netting six times in seven games at the turn of the year. That run culminated with the equalising goal in the win over Manchester United but it was Robin's last act of the season after breaking a metatarsal in the act of scoring. He still finished as Arsenal's top scorer with 13 goals but would surely have managed a lot more had he stayed fit.

Robin can make amends this season. Assuming greater responsibility in the wake of Thierry Henry's departure, the Dutchman was back to his best in pre-season, scoring the goals which won the Emirates Cup and the Amsterdam Tournament.

One of European football's most exciting talents, Robin has excellent close control, a powerful left foot and the ability to change a game with one piece of magic. He's a dab hand from free kicks too. Now, with Henry gone, the stage is set for Robin to become Arsenal's new talisman.

My Year

August
Dutchman Robin featured in all five of Arsenal’s games in August, scoring two goals. The striker’s first goal came from the penalty spot against Fulham, and his second demonstrated his poaching instincts when he was quickest to pounce on a loose ball at Blackburn. He also played a full 90 minutes in the Netherlands’ 2-1 defeat in Switzerland.

May
Injury forced Robin to sit out Arsenal’s final two fixtures of the season. The Dutch international ended the campaign having made 31 appearances, scoring 13 goals.

April
Robin missed the entire month of April as he continued his recovery from the broken metatarsal he suffered in scoring against Manchester United in January. The Dutchman is highly unlikely to feature again this season.

March
A frustrating month for Robin, who missed every game through injury. The Dutchman suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in the build-up to his equalising goal in the 2-1 win over Manchester United in January. Arsène Wenger revealed he expected Robin to play again this season but later confessed he is unlikely to risk the striker until pre-season.

February
Robin missed every February game due to the foot injury he sustained against Manchester United in January. It is still unknown how long the healing process will take.

Regarded as one of the finest young players in Dutch football and a regular in the Holland Under-21s, Robin made his senior debut with Feyenoord at the age of 17.

A left-footed player who is comfortable as a striker or on the wing, he scored 14 goals in over 70 appearances for the Dutch club.

He agreed to join Arsenal at the end of last season and marked his first appearance for his new club with a thunderous strike against Barnet in July.

Lauren was a consistent performer at right back last season, strong in the tackle and quick to recover his ground in times of danger. An ankle injury forced him out for six weeks from November and a calf injury at Bolton in April threatened his chances of playing against Southampton in the FA Cup final. Lauren recovered just in time to take his place.

He hit two goals in the cup run including an all-important third at Stamford Bridge in the sixth-round replay.

Lauren was his usual tough-tackling self and a valuable outlet on the right flank last season. As ever, he got forward to good effect and linked up well with Freddie Ljungberg.

Ever-present until injury ruled him out of the trip to Charlton on New Year's Day, the 28-year-old's season was punctuated with vital penalties in the Premiership and FA Cup.

He put Arsenal ahead for the first time in their 5-4 win at Tottenham and kept his nerve to score in FA Cup shoot-outs against Sheffield United and Manchester United as the Gunners regained the famous old trophy.

My Year
September
Played in every game during September and was his iusual steady self, getting forward whenever possible. Particularly impressive in Amsterdam, leading by example as a young Gunners side beat Ajax.

August
Started all three Premiership games. Picked up a booking in the home game against Fulham and also missed a penalty with the score at 0-0. It Was the first spot-kick miss of Lauren's career for club and country.

Summer
Regular and reliable in pre-season, starting the opening summer game against Barnet and all three matche on the tour of Austria. Also lined up in both Amsterdam Tournament fixtures and the Community Shield.

May
Lauren was denied a goal by the crossbar against Liverpool before a bout of food poisoning laid him low. He missed the Birmingham game but was back for the Cup Final, where Ronaldo gave him a torrid time. Lauren had the final word though, netting a perfect penalty in front of United's baying fans.

Alexander became Arsène Wenger's first signing of the close season when he signed a long-term deal at Highbury after making 137 appearances during a five-year spell at VfB Stuttgart.

The Belarus international is a versatile midfielder who started his Bundesliga career on the left flank before settling into a more central role behind the strikers. He impressed against Manchester United and Chelsea in the 2003/04 Champions League.

"We are delighted that Alexander has agreed to join us," said Wenger. "He is a player I have admired for some time now and I know he will provide our squad with great quality.

"Hleb has proved his ability with his performances in the Bundesliga in recent seasons and he definitely has the potential to do very well with Arsenal."

Alexander scored two minutes into his debut, in Arsenal's pre-season friendly against Barnet.

Continued to impress with his work rate, close control and ability to beat opponents. Lively at Boro where he linked well
with Reyes from the right flank. Came on as a sub against Thun and Everton at Highbury but returned to the starting line-up at West Ham, where his defence-splitting ball was uncharacteristically miscontrolled by Ljungberg in the closing stages.

August
Alexander made a solid start to his first Premiership season. Came off the bench and immediately caused problems for Newcastle on the opening day and was Arsenal's most impressive performer in the defeat at Chelsea. Kept his place against Fulham.

Summer
The Belarus international started World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Scotland. Scored within two minutes of his Arsenal debut against Barnet and netted in style against Ritzing.

The flying French forward was simply superb last season. He hit 24 goals to finish second in the Premiership scoring charts and weighed in with a record-breaking 20 assists. It's no wonder he walked away with Player of the Year awards from the PFA, the Football Writers and Arsenal.com.

Thierry scored a further seven goals in the Champions League, including a stunning hat-trick at Roma. Thierry won his 50th cap for France during the summer.

Thierry is one of world football's most electrifying talents. The French striker's skill, pace, eye for goal and selfless team play would improve any side on the planet but he is happy to remain the jewel in Arsenal's crown.

Thierry was untouchable in the Premiership last term, racking up 25 goals and 14 assists despite missing the run-in through injury. He scored five more in Europe and starts the new season just four short of Ian Wright's Club record of 185 goals.

As usual, the Frenchman was in the frame for individual honours in 2004/05. For a second successive year Thierry finished second in the World and European Player of the Year polls, but he scooped the Arsenal.com Player of the Season prize.

Thierry will be 28 early in the 2005/06 campaign and he shows no signs of fading. That is good news for Arsenal and, with a World Cup around the corner, France too.

My Year
September
Scored the winner for France in their vital World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland at the start of the month but aggravated a groin problem in the same game. Wenger rules him out for six weeks and admits it will be a "happy surprise" should he come back any quicker.

August
Thierry ended the month just one goal adrift of Ian Wright's club record after scoring three times in three Premiership games during August. He scored a penalty against Newcastle on the opening day and netted two well-taken efforts at home to Fulham.

Summer
Appointed as club captain after the departure of Patrick Vieira. Scored a magnificent goal against Weiz in pre-season, one of five strikes for the Frenchman during pre-season.

Name
Francesc Fabregas
Born

Position
Midfielder
Joined Arsenal
11 September 2003
Previous Club(s)
Barcelona

Francesc Fabregas joined Arsenal from Barcelona in October 2003 but has already made his presence felt at Highbury by breaking two club records.

He became the youngest player to feature for Arsenal's first team when, aged 16 years 177 days, he started the Carling Cup tie against Rotherham at Highbury.

Cesc then became the youngest Arsenal goalscorer at the age of 16 years 212 days in the 5-1 win against Wolves in the next round on December 2.

The midfield playmaker has also been a regular for the reserves, where his decision-making, passing ability and eye for goal have caught the eye.

Cesc was arguably the find of last season. At the tender age of 17 he was expected to be eased into the first-team picture, but injuries to Gilberto and Edu saw him promoted ahead of schedule.

The Spanish teenager let nobody down. His work ethic, vision and canny knack of making the right decision when in possession, Cesc slotted in seamlessly to Arsenal's fluent style of play.

He netted three times last season and became Arsenal's youngest league goalscorer when he struck against Blackburn on the night the Gunners broke Nottingham Forest's unbeaten record.

My Year
September
Continues to bely his tender years with another string of mature performances in the centre of midfield. Came off the bench at Boro but started the remaining games in September. Sliced a good chance over the bar at West Ham and impressed hugely in the Champions League win at Ajax

August
Cesc started all three Premiership games in August and was particularly impressive in the wins over Newcastle and Fulham. The young Spaniard also more than held his own against Lampard and Makelele at Stamford Bridge.

Summer
Played a major role in Spain's run to the last eight of the FIFA World Youth Championships, starting five of their six fixtures in midfield. Started pre-season late but netted from close range at the Community Shield.

May
Five more appearances for Cesc, who also grabbed his third goal in Arsenal's colours with a thumping low shot in stoppage time against Liverpool. The Spanish midfielder capped a memorable season with a starting berth in the Cup Final line-up as Wenger opted for a 4-5-1 formation.

Mathieu Flamini made his full debut against Ajax at the Amsterdam Tournament after joining Arsenal in July.

The French Under-21 international spent 15 years with Marseille, working his way through the youth system before breaking into the first team at the end of 2003.

Mathieu will give Arsene Wenger more options in midfield. He can operate on the right or in a central role and has already gained big-match experience after appearing in the UEFA Cup final last season.

"He is very powerful and plays with great creativity, both as a defensive and attacking midfielder," says Wenger. "He will be a tremendous addition to our squad."

Like his midfield colleague Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu was called into first-team action more than expected during the 2004/05 campaign. Like Fabregas, Flamini let nobody down.

The Frenchman made 57 appearances but had to wait until the final home game of the season - against Everton - before scoring his first goal, a crisp finish in front of the North Bank.

Industrious and versatile, Mathieu can operate on the right of midfield or in a central role. Wherever he plays, a whole-hearted effort is guaranteed from the France Under-21 international.

My Year
September
Started the month in the Reserves, linking up well with Alex Song in a 4-2 win at Ipswich. Started at Boro but injury sidelined him for a fortnight. Returned as a sub at West Ham and ended the month in style with a battling performance at Ajax, where his interception sparked the move which led to Ljungberg's early opener.

August
Mathieu made substitute appearances in all three of the Premiership games in August, as well as starting the reserve game against Leicester at Underhill. He managed an assist against Fulham, playing the ball through to Henry for the striker's second of the night.

Summer
Shouldered the midfield burden in pre-season with Vieira leaving plus Cesc and Gilberto on international duty. Started seven games - including the Community Shield - and scored against Weiz in Austria.

May
Returned from injury as a half-time substitute against Everton and marked his comeback with his first goal for the Club, rounding off a 7-0 victory with a good finish from Jose Antonio Reyes' cutback. Mathieu got another sub appearance under his belt at Birmingham.

Pascal adapted well in his first season at Highbury and broke his scoring duck against Everton. He was thrust into the fray for his debut against PSV at short notice, replacing Martin Keown. But the 28-year-old responded with a calm, assured display.

He produced a string of unfussy, committed performances throughout Keown's three-month absence and formed a tight central defensive unit with Sol Campbell before injury restricted his appearances in the second half of the season.

Six weeks later, he broke the record for the fastest goal in the Champions League when he struck after only 19.4 seconds at PSV Eindhoven. Despite an arduous year for club and country, Gilberto dug deep to impress in May at the FA Cup final.

The Estonian international goalkeeper has vast experience of English football, having made over 200 appearances for both Derby County and Sunderland.

Poom, who won his 100th international cap last September, has been voted Estonian Footballer of the Year six times.

My Year
December
Mart was an unused substitute against Ajax and Doncaster Rovers during December. The Estonian international has yet to make his first-team debut for Arsenal.

November
Mart was an unused sub in the Champions League wins over Sparta Prague and FC Thun as well as the Carling Cup win over Reading. The Estonian international still awaits his first-team debut.

October
Mart made his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt in the Reserves' away win over Fulham at Motspur Park. Despite the unglamorous surroundings, the Estonian international put in a faultless display in tricky conditions, producing a couple of fine saves and showing great accuracy with his kicking. Mart ended the month as an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Sunderland at The Stadium of Light.

Another colossal season for Campbell. Arsène Wenger has described him as his 'super rock' in the Arsenal defence and it is difficult to argue with that assessment. He was equally at home whether he was partnered by Martin Keown or Pascal Cygan and helped ensure the Gunners defence was one of the best in the Premiership.

He also showed his usefulness at set-pieces by scoring headers against Middlesbrough, Manchester City and Leeds. Sol remains a regular in the England side.

Emmanuel was named Togolese Footballer of the Year shortly afterwards. The tall striker, dubbed the ‘new Kanu’, finished top scorer for the African Zone in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers with 11 goals, helping Togo reach the finals in Germany.

He will represent his country and the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Egypt but won’t be able to play Champions League football for Arsenal this season, after appearing for Monaco in the Third Qualifying Round against Real Betis.

The 16-year-old England youth international burst on to the first-team scene with Championship side Southampton this term, and at the time his departure from St. Mary’s, was the Club’s joint leading scorer with 5 goals from just 13 starts.

The pacy midfielder/striker became Sothampton’s youngest-ever player on the opening day of the current campaign, when he came on as a second-half substitute in the Saints’ fixture with Wolves.

He will wear the number 32 shirt at Arsenal — the same number he wore at the South-coast club.

Robust in the tackle and a decent passer of the ball, the 20-year-old has been likened to Patrick Vieira. And, funnily enough, Sebastian told Arsenal.com he is trying to base his game on the Arsenal captain. It is a lofty ambition but he has the talent to pull it off.

Sebastian started the new campaign on loan at FC Copenhagen. He was due to return in January 2004.

 ARSENAL CONFIRM SQUAD NUMBERS

LONDON (ARSENAL-MANIA) - Arsenal Football Club have confirmed the new squad numbers for the 2005/06 season.

There has been little change from last season's list, with centre backs Phillipe Senderos and Kolo Touré keeping their respective 20 and 28, despite thoughts that 5 or 6 might be more appropiate.

One significant change, however, is Alexander Hleb who has been confirmed as Arsenal's new number 13, which the new signing has worn during pre-season. The number 13 was previously worn by goalkeeper Stuart Taylor who left for Aston Villa in the summer.

Other changes include the step up of David Bentley, returning from loan at Norwich getting the number 25, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie getting 26 and Sebastian Larsson getting 29.

The full list is as follows:

1. Jens Lehmann
3. Ashley Cole
7. Robért Píres
8. Fredrik Ljungberg
9. José Antonio Reyes
10. Dennis Bergkamp
11. Robin van Persie
